New Delhi: Former Chief Justice of India, N.V. Ramana, praised the Andhra Pradesh government’s initiative to issue official orders (GOs) in Telugu, calling it “a Commendable initiative.”
In a statement on Saturday, he emphasized that providing government directives in the mother tongue ensures clarity for all citizens and enhances understanding of governmental decisions. He remarked that this move would significantly increase transparency in governance.
Justice Ramana also commended the decision for inspiring Telugu language enthusiasts, students, and educators, noting that governance in the people’s language is “a hallmark of democracy.”

He expressed appreciation for Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s efforts and expressed hope that discussions with stakeholders would facilitate the availability of all degree, technical, and professional courses in Telugu in the future.
Justice Ramana stressed that promoting education in the mother tongue nurtures creativity and expression among students, ultimately serving as a guiding light for societal progress.
In response to the Andhra Pradesh government’s decision, Guttikonda Subbarao and G.V. Poornachandu, President and Secretary of the World Telugu Writers’ Association, expressed their happiness. They welcomed the government’s positive response, which followed just three days after their sixth global conference made this request.
They stated,
“The conference passed 18 resolutions, and we thank Ministers Kandula Durgesh and Satyakumar for announcing their support to bring administrative-related resolutions to the government’s attention.”

Former Chief Justice of India, N.V. Ramana, is remembered for his efforts to make the judiciary more transparent, accessible, and independent. As the 48th CJI, from April 2021 to August 2022, he worked to protect democracy, support press freedom, and strengthen public institutions. He promoted the use of regional languages in courts and government orders to make them more inclusive and easier for people to understand.
During his tenure, he pushed for digitization and virtual hearings, especially during the pandemic, and encouraged alternative dispute resolution to reduce case backlogs. His legacy reflects a focus on justice for all and reforms to strengthen India’s democratic and constitutional values.
