The discussion will feature Dr DY Chandrachud, the former Chief Justice of India, who has been well known for strongly supporting the rights of persons with disabilities during his time in the judiciary.

Mission Accessibility, a not-for-profit group working to support people with disabilities, will host a special discussion titled ‘Disability Rights and Beyond’ on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. The event will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Multipurpose Hall in IIC.
The discussion will feature Dr DY Chandrachud, the former Chief Justice of India, who has been well known for strongly supporting the rights of persons with disabilities during his time in the judiciary.
This event aims to shed light on disability rights, accessibility challenges, and the need for better legal and policy frameworks to ensure that persons with disabilities are treated equally and included in all areas of life.
Mission Accessibility is a not-for-profit organisation that was co-founded by two visually challenged lawyers, Rahul Bajaj and Amar Jain. The group works hard to make sure that people with disabilities can participate fully, equally, and without any barriers in society.
They follow a multi-disciplinary approach, which includes:
- Legal reform
- Policy advocacy
- Capacity building
- Public awareness
- Research
The goal of the organisation is to create a society where people with disabilities can live and work with dignity and independence.
The event is focused on opening up a conversation around issues that people with disabilities face every day. This includes legal hurdles, lack of accessibility in public places, digital services, transport, education, and employment. The session will also explore wider ideas of inclusion, and how laws and policies can be made more supportive and inclusive for the disabled community.
Mission Accessibility hopes to “bring together persons with disabilities, the judiciary, government bodies, corporates, and civil society in a collective movement towards greater inclusion.”
Dr DY Chandrachud, who will speak at the event, has been recognised for being “a strong proponent of disability rights” during his tenure as the Chief Justice of India. Under his leadership, the Supreme Court passed several progressive judgments that helped improve the legal standing of people with disabilities in India.
