NEW DELHI: Vote counting for the long-delayed Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections commenced on Monday at North Campus, nearly two months after polling. The results, initially set to be declared on September 28, were postponed due to a Delhi High Court directive.

According to an official notice, the final results will be announced by 4 PM today.

The court had ordered the delay until the defacement caused during the election campaign was cleaned up.

The race for the president’s post is anticipated to be intense between ABVP’s Rishabh Chaudhary, NSUI’s Rounak Khatri, and AISA’s Saavy Gupta.

For vice-president, the key candidates are ABVP’s Bhanu Pratap Singh, NSUI’s Yash Nandal, and AISA’s Ayush Mondal.

In the competition for the secretary’s post, ABVP’s Mitravinda Karanwal faces NSUI’s Namrata Jeph Meena and SFI’s Anamika K. Meanwhile, the joint secretary race features ABVP’s Aman Kapasia, NSUI’s Lokesh Choudhary, and SFI’s Sneha Aggarwal.

Providing this information, Professor Satyapal Singh, Chief Election Officer for the DUSU Elections 2024-25, stated that the Delhi High Court has instructed Delhi University to complete the vote counting by or before November 26, 2024, once all distortions are resolved. He mentioned that a survey revealed some areas still have unresolved distortions. To address this, the university has decided to undertake the cleaning process itself.

Considering these circumstances, Prof. Satyapal Singh announced that the counting of votes for the DUSU Elections 2024-25 will take place on November 25. The counting will begin at 8 AM at the Conference Center, located opposite the Department of Botany in the North Campus of Delhi University.

Currently, the ABVP dominates the student body, holding the positions of president, secretary, and joint secretary, while the NSUI controls the vice-president’s seat.
