What is the Controvercy?
Jeethu Joseph, the mastermind behind the Drishyam universe, recently broke his silence over rumours suggesting that the Hindi version of Drishyam 3, starring Ajay Devgn, might go on floors before the original Malayalam version, headlined by Mohanlal as George Kutty.
Jeethu, while speaking to Mathrubhumi, made it clear that he was strongly against this move, emphasizing that the original vision must come first. He warned that if the Hindi version proceeded to production before the Malayalam version, he would consider legal action. He revealed.
“There were demands on making Malayalam and Hindi versions together, but we haven’t decided on those matters. There were initially some plans to start in Hindi first, but after a hint was given that this would be dealt with legally, they backed off from it.”
He added that the screenplay is still in progress and that he had just completed the climax of the film the night before the interview. Under significant creative pressure, Jeethu stressed that Drishyam 3 will begin shooting in Malayalam only in October 2025.
Rumor About Drishyam 3?
Recent buzz had suggested that Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3 would begin filming before the Malayalam version. This naturally led to frustration on Jeethu Joseph’s part, who is keen on preserving the narrative originality of the story.
Interestingly, a report by Pinkvilla stated that the Hindi version is also set to start production on October 2, 2025, a date for the franchise, as it aligns with events depicted in the films. It’s said to be a three-month shoot at a real location across Maharashtra, with Ajay Devgn having already locked his dates.

Drishyam Franchise
The Drishyam franchise began with the Malayalam original in 2013, featuring Mohanlal as the now-iconic George Kutty. The film’s gripping narrative and suspenseful storytelling quickly captured audiences across the country, leading to multiple remakes in other languages.
In 2014, it was remade in Kannada with V Ravichandran and in Telugu with Venkatesh. The Tamil version followed in 2015 with Kamal Haasan, and the Hindi adaptation, starring Ajay Devgn, also released in 2015.
Beyond Indian cinema, Drishyam has been adapted in Sinhala and Chinese, with Indonesian and Korean remakes currently in development, solidifying its place as a truly global thriller.

What is Jeethu Joseph’s Concern?
This isn’t just a clash of production schedules; it’s about creative ownership and storytelling integrity. As the original creator, Jeethu Joseph believes the Malayalam version, from which all other versions stem, must set the tone and pace.
Allowing the Hindi version to roll first could potentially compromise the element of surprise and originality, especially given that Drishyam stories rely heavily on suspense and plot twists.
