Document forgery led to the arrest of Umar Ansari, son of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, for allegedly using fake papers in court to reclaim his late father’s seized assets, sparking fresh legal trouble for the family.

Umar Ansari, the son of the late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly submitting forged documents in court in an attempt to recover his father’s seized assets.

According to a statement from the Superintendent of Police in Ghazipur, these properties were confiscated under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act.

A petition had been filed in court seeking the return of assets belonging to the incarcerated gangster, who passed away from cardiac arrest in a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, in March of this year.

It is alleged that Umar Ansari sought to gain illegally by submitting forged documents that reportedly bore the false signatures of his mother, Afshan Ansari, who is currently at large and has a reward of Rs.50,000 for her capture.

The statement noted,

“Upon learning of the fraudulent activity, a case was registered against Umar Ansari at the Mohammadabad police station, with charges filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),”

Umar Ansari has been taken into custody, and an investigation is ongoing, the statement added.

Police sources indicate that a team from Ghazipur police apprehended Umar Ansari in Lucknow.
