The Delhi University Faculty of Law has postponed the LL.B exams originally set for December 26, 2024, due to student protests over incomplete syllabus coverage and faculty disruptions. Students demanded the postponement, leading to peaceful protests that escalated, prompting police intervention. The university acknowledged these concerns and planned to release a revised exam schedule.

New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) Faculty of Law has announced that the LL.B exams scheduled for December 26, 2024, have been put on hold, following student protests that erupted on December 16. Students from Campus Law Centre, Law Centre-1, and Law Centre-2 demanded the postponement, citing incomplete syllabus coverage and disruptions caused by faculty shuffles and last-minute guest faculty appointments earlier this month.
Students expressed their inability to adequately prepare for the exams under these circumstances. A student remarked,
“Most of the syllabus remains incomplete, and we haven’t had proper instruction due to frequent faculty changes.”
The administration initially dismissed these concerns, prompting students to stage a peaceful protest outside the campus on Monday. The protest escalated when students blocked the Dean, Prof. Anju Vali Tikoo, from leaving the campus that evening. According to Times of India, the situation intensified as 60 police officers and paramilitary forces were deployed, with reports indicating that tear gas was used to disperse the crowd.
The protests have had a tangible impact, leading the university to reconsider its decision. A notice signed by the Dean states:
“The Date Sheet relating to LL.B I/III/V Term December/ January 2024 Examination scheduled from 26th December, 2024, is put on hold.”
While students welcome the decision, they emphasize the need for timely and complete instruction to ensure a fair examination process. This postponement highlights ongoing concerns about academic administration and the importance of addressing student grievances proactively.
Stay tuned for updates as the university releases a revised schedule for the LL.B examinations.
