Delhi district court lawyers have decided to continue their strike today, declaring it a “protest against arbitrary notification.” The agitation includes public prosecutors, ED and CBI lawyers, and police officials refusing to appear before the courts.

Lawyers from all district courts in Delhi, who have been on strike since Friday, will continue their work stoppage on Monday in response to a recent notification from Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena.

This notification designates police stations in the capital as videoconferencing centers for officers to provide court testimonies.

The decision to extend the protest was made during a meeting of the coordination committee representing all bar associations at the Tis Hazari Courts Complex on Saturday.

In his notification issued on August 13, Mr. Saxena indicated that videoconferencing facilities established in police stations throughout Delhi would be recognized as “designated places” for police officers to deliver court depositions.

The committee announced that demonstrations will take place outside all court complexes, stating,

“The public prosecutors/Enforcement Directorate/Central Bureau of Investigation prosecutors/police officials, including Naib courts, shall also not be allowed to appear in the courts as a protest against the arbitrary notification.”

The coordination committee warned that if the notification is not rescinded by Monday, they will be forced to escalate their protests, which may include a “gherao of the L-G House.”

Earlier, The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) expressed strong opposition to a notification issued on August 13, 2025, by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, which designates police stations as the official venues for recording evidence from police officials.

In a resolution dated August 22, 2025, the SCBA President and Executive Committee emphasized the seriousness of this issue, noting its direct impact on judicial independence and the fairness of the justice system.

The Association deems the notification not only unfair but also detrimental.
