Delhi Bar Associations Condemn Arrest of Advocate by Haryana STF: 'Attack on Legal Independence'

NEW DELHI: The legal fraternity in Delhi has condemned the arrest of Advocate Vikram Singh by the Special Task Force (STF), Gurgaon, Haryana Police. The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) and the Coordination Committee of All District Court Bar Associations of Delhi have both issued official resolutions denouncing what they term an “illegal and arbitrary action” against a practicing advocate merely for discharging his professional duties.

Delhi High Court Bar Association Issues Resolution

In a resolution dated November 4, 2025, the Executive Committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association stated that the arrest of Advocate Vikram Singh, a member of the Bar (D/3239/2019), amounts to a “gross misuse of power” and is an “attack on the independence of the legal profession.”

The resolution emphasizes that every advocate has the right to perform their professional duties “without fear or intimidation.” The Association demanded the immediate withdrawal of the false case and called for accountability from those responsible for the “unlawful act.”

The resolution was signed by Vikram Singh Panwar, Honorary Secretary of the DHCBA.

Coordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations

A similar statement was issued on November 3, 2025, by the Coordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations of Delhi, led by Chairman V.K. Singh and Secretary General Anil R. Basoya.

The Committee condemned the “high-handed action” of the STF Gurgaon for “illegally and unlawfully implicating Advocate Vikram Singh in a murder case” simply because he was representing a co-accused in the said matter.

Calling it a “direct attack on the independence of the legal profession,” the Committee expressed solidarity with Advocate Vikram Singh and demanded the unconditional withdrawal of the false implication and all related actions. It also warned that “such arbitrary actions against members of the legal fraternity will not be tolerated.”

Both the Delhi High Court Bar Association and the Coordination Committee have emphasized that the independence of the Bar is essential to the administration of justice. They stated that any attempt to intimidate or target advocates for representing their clients is a violation of the rule of law and professional ethics.
