Lawyer Rakesh Kishore, who attempted to attack CJI B.R. Gavai with a shoe, revealed his Dalit identity and declared he will begin a hunger strike at Khajuraho’s Vishnu temple. He said, “If God calls me again, I will do it again.”

On October 6, 2025, a dramatic incident took place inside the Supreme Court of India when lawyer Rakesh Kishore attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice of India, Justice B.R. Gavai.
The unexpected act shocked the courtroom. Kishore was immediately taken into custody by the police but was later released.
Since then, the matter has triggered widespread debate, especially on social media, where many people have been speculating about Kishore’s caste. Responding to these discussions, the lawyer himself has come forward and openly revealed his caste identity.
He told the media,
“I myself am a Dalit,”
Speaking to the website OpIndia, Kishore said,
“People don’t know me, I am neither Pandey, nor am I Tiwari, nor am I Gupta, nor am I Jaiswal — I am a Dalit and I am ready to show my caste certificate.”
The controversy originally began after comments made by the Chief Justice in relation to Lord Vishnu. When asked whether the CJI’s remark was intentional, Kishore replied:
“No, that comment was not made deliberately but what is inside the CJI’s mind came out. I feel sad that a section is being cut off from Hindus and they were the ones who gheraoed my house.”
Even after the shoe-throwing episode, Kishore expressed no remorse for his action. He boldly declared:
“If God calls me again, I will do it again.”
He explained that his actions were driven by his spiritual beliefs and his deep study of Buddhism. According to him,
“It is difficult for anyone else to get as much knowledge of Buddhism as I have. I have read Gautam Buddha the most. I am influenced by the thoughts of Lord Buddha.”
Talking about his future plans, Kishore said that he has a mission to protect Sanatan Dharma and the worship of Lord Vishnu.

He stated:
“My aim is to restore the idol of Lord Vishnu.”
When asked whether he feared for his safety after the controversy, Kishore answered with concern.
“You know who are these people who are interested in separating the head from the body. Kanhaiyalal Kumar was killed and made a video of him and those who killed him are still roaming free. We can be attacked at any time, they can do anything so that the voice of Sanatana dies forever. My next step is to visit the temple of Lord Vishnu in Khajuraho. My aim is to restore it. I will go on a hunger strike. I have received God’s command. My message is that don’t sit quietly. Awaken to Sanatan, bring your children forward.”
The incident has now gone beyond just a courtroom disturbance and has turned into a larger debate about religion, caste, and freedom of expression.
Kishore’s open statements and refusal to apologise have kept the controversy alive, with strong reactions coming in from both supporters and critics.
