Effectively reducing the number of personnel present at these location, Furthermore, the order stipulates,
“The daily attendance of hundred percent staff members attached to the courts be exempted and only 50% of the staff of each respective Courts shall attend duty on rotation basis,”
The decision comes in the wake of growing security concerns following India’s military operation known as ‘Operation Sindoor’, which was carried out as a strong response to the Poonch terror attack.
During this operation, the Indian Army reportedly struck terror launchpads across the border in Pakistan-occupied territory. After the operation, tension has increased in many districts located near the Indo-Pak border, including Amritsar.
The temporary suspension of court work in Amritsar and Ajnala reflects the serious concern over the safety of judicial staff, lawyers, and litigants during the present situation of cross-border instability.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the conditions, and any further decisions will be based on how the situation develops after May 12.
This legal step follows similar decisions like the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association’s announcement of a ‘No Work Day’ on May 9 due to a blackout and growing panic linked to the border conflict. The region remains on alert, and all legal bodies are coordinating to ensure the safety of their members and the public.
