Haryana Police arrested one accused in the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal. The 23-year-old was killed recently, prompting authorities to take swift action. On Sunday, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to investigate the case. The probe is ongoing to uncover more details.
The Haryana Police announced the arrest of one individual in connection with the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal.
A senior police official stated,
“The accused is from a village in Jhajjar district and was known to the deceased Himani Narwal. We will present the man before the court and seek his remand to determine the reasons behind the gruesome murder. Prima facie, it appears that there was some grudge between the accused and Himani.”
Narwal’s body was discovered inside a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand along the Rohtak-Delhi highway on March 1.
On Sunday, the Haryana Police established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder of the 23-year-old Congress member. Four teams from the Rohtak Police are actively searching for the culprits, according to reports.
Narwal lived in Vijay Nagar, Rohtak, and her body, found in a suitcase in Rohtak district, showed signs of injury. Her family has stated they will not proceed with her cremation until the killers are apprehended. Her mother, Savita, alleged that some leaders within her party were envious of her rapid political ascent.
She remarked, accompanied by her son Jatin,
“It could be anyone in the party who was jealous of her rise or someone else entirely,”
Haryana Congress leaders described Narwal as an active and dedicated party worker, noting her participation in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. They mentioned that she was pursuing a law degree and had been involved with the party for nearly a decade.
Savita emphasized her daughter’s commitment, saying,
“She used to work for the party until late hours and had dedicated her life to it. The last time I spoke with her was on February 27; she mentioned being busy with a party program the next day, but later her phone was found switched off.”
She added,
“Until my daughter receives justice, we won’t cremate her.”
Savita also mourned her elder son’s murder years ago, sorrowing,
“Even then, I did not get justice.”
Narwal’s brother, Jatin, said the family learned about the murder on Saturday afternoon.
The case comes under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with murder. If proven guilty, the accused can get the death penalty or life imprisonment. Depending on the investigation, the police may also add charges under Section 120B IPC (criminal conspiracy) or Section 34 IPC (when multiple people commit a crime with a common intention).
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to ensure a fair and fast investigation. SITs are usually set up in high-profile cases, especially when there is political pressure or media attention.
