NEW DELHI: Today (5th July): Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud has urged citizens with pending cases before the Supreme Court to participate in a special Lok Adalat scheduled from July 29 to August 3, 2024. This initiative aims to resolve disputes amicably and hassle-free.

In a video message on the Supreme Court’s website, the CJI highlighted that this event is part of commemorations for the Supreme Court’s 75th anniversary and addresses concerns over the backlog of cases.

“The Supreme Court is organizing a special Lok Adalat from July 29 to August 3, 2024. This is part of our commemorative activities for the 75th year since the establishment of the Supreme Court,”

he stated.

Emphasizing the informal and technology-driven nature of Lok Adalats, he encouraged all stakeholders, including litigants, lawyers, and advocates on record, to utilize this opportunity for resolving cases voluntarily and consensually.

“The Lok Adalat offers a technology-based solution to resolve cases to the satisfaction of our citizens in a voluntary and consensual manner,”

Justice Chandrachud noted.

He appealed to participants to take advantage of this initiative to achieve speedy and acceptable resolutions for all parties involved.

The Supreme Court had previously underscored the significance of Lok Adalats in enhancing alternative dispute resolution and expediting amicable settlements within the judicial system. This effort aligns with the court’s commitment to accessible and efficient justice delivery across society, addressing a range of cases including matrimonial disputes, property disputes, motor accident claims, land acquisition, compensation, service, and labor disputes pending before the apex court.
