CJI Surya Kant at MDU Golden Jubilee: “Hard Work, Clear Goals & Discipline Are Essential for Success”

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said that clarity of goals, hard work, discipline and strong values are key to success in life. Speaking at MDU’s Golden Jubilee in Rohtak, he urged students to uphold integrity, constitutional values and dedication to the nation.

In a significant address at Maharshi Dayanand University, the Surya Kant said that clear goals, hard work, discipline and strong determination are the key factors for achieving success in life. Speaking as the chief guest at the university’s Golden Jubilee and alumni felicitation ceremony in Rohtak, Haryana, the Chief Justice of India emphasised that personal growth must be guided by honesty and service to society.

Addressing students and faculty members, the CJI said,

“clarity of goals, hard work, discipline, and unwavering determination are essentials for success in life.”

He further underlined the importance of character and social responsibility, stating,

“Integrity, values, and ethics, along with a sense of dedication to society and the nation, are crucial on this path,”

he stressed.

Recalling his own student life at MDU, Justice Kant shared his personal experience and said that the university always treated students equally. He mentioned,

“he never faced discrimination on the MDU campus due to his rural background.”

He praised the inclusive culture of the institution and added,

“The university provided an inclusive environment where only talent, hard work, and intellectual ability were valued,”

he said.

The CJI explained that these principles deeply influenced his approach towards law and justice. According to him,

“these values laid a strong foundation of his judicial thinking.”

He encouraged students to remain committed to ethical standards and constitutional principles in their careers and public life.

Justice Kant also appreciated the university’s long academic tradition and advised young minds to stay connected with moral principles and constitutional ideals. He urged them to protect the spirit of justice and uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution of India.

In his welcome address, Vice Chancellor Rajbir Singh highlighted the achievements of the university over the last fifty years. He said that MDU has made major progress in education, research, sports, culture and social service. He described the Golden Jubilee year as a time for reflection and future planning, stating,

“the Golden Jubilee year is not merely an occasion for celebration, but a time for introspection and new resolutions for the future.”

The Vice Chancellor further explained that in accordance with the National Education Policy, the university is focusing on multidisciplinary education, skill development, innovation and research. He emphasised that the aim of the institution goes beyond awarding degrees. In his words,

“the university’s objective is not merely to confer degrees, but to cultivate responsible, sensitive, and value-based citizens who play an active role in building society and the nation.”

He also praised the alumni community, saying,

“He described the alumni as living symbols of the university’s glorious tradition, saying that their achievements are a source of inspiration for current students.”

During the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor honoured the Chief Justice with a robe. The event was also attended by Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, who was felicitated on the occasion. Several distinguished alumni from fields such as judiciary, legal practice, sports, literature, administration, medicine, education and corporate leadership were also honoured for their contributions.

On the same day, the CJI inaugurated the newly constructed Golden Jubilee Gate at the university campus. Built at a cost of approximately ₹1.25 crore, the gate is located towards the Jhajjar Bypass side to improve entry and exit facilities. The structure is built on an RCC frame and features Dholpur and red sandstone cladding, giving it a grand appearance and reflecting the institution’s legacy.

To promote environmental awareness, Justice Kant also planted a sapling on campus. Through this act, he conveyed a strong message of environmental conservation and appreciated the clean and green environment maintained by the university.

The event was attended by District and Sessions Judge Ajay Tewatia, CJM Tarannum Khan, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta, along with several administrative officers, academicians and guests, making it a memorable celebration of MDU’s 50-year journey.

The Golden Jubilee celebration highlighted not only the university’s achievements but also its continued commitment to education, constitutional values and nation-building.
