Chief Justice of India Surya Kant visited his native village in Haryana, recalled his humble school days, and stressed the importance of education. During his visit, he also inaugurated two new court complexes to strengthen access to justice at the grassroots level.

Chandigarh: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday visited his native village Petwar in Haryana and shared memories from his early life, recalling the struggles he faced as a student and stressing that education is the biggest investment for any family and society.
The visit marked the concluding day of the CJI’s two-day tour of Hisar and Hansi. Petwar village, where Justice Surya Kant spent his childhood, earlier fell under Hisar district and is now part of the newly formed Hansi district. This was his first visit to the village after taking oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India in November last year.
Justice Surya Kant reached the village in the afternoon along with Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and other dignitaries. He received a warm and emotional welcome from the villagers, who greeted him with dhol beats and traditional celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Justice spoke about his student life and said that even though facilities were limited during his school days, the commitment of teachers and support of elders played a crucial role in shaping his journey. He said that education must always be given top priority and described it as the strongest foundation for a better future.
Recalling his school days, Justice Surya Kant said he studied up to Class X in the village school at Petwar. He shared that students used to sit in a large hall where paddy straw was spread on the floor. Despite these limitations, teachers were deeply dedicated and often taught students till late at night so that the school’s results could match or exceed those of other schools in the region.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Justice inaugurated the newly constructed court complex at Barwala in Hisar district and laid the foundation stone for another upcoming court building. The programmes were attended by the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu, several other High Court judges, and Haryana ministers Ranbir Singh Gangwa and Arvind Sharma.
While addressing a gathering at Narnaund, Justice Surya Kant said that the establishment of the Sub-Divisional Court was a matter of great satisfaction and informed that a sessions division would soon be set up in Hansi. He urged judicial officers and advocates to focus on strengthening public faith in the justice delivery system and to ensure that justice is delivered on time.
At Barwala, the CJI explained that the main aim of setting up new courts is to make justice simple, accessible and affordable for common citizens. He informed that judicial work in the newly inaugurated court complexes would begin from Monday.
Referring to the concept of “Justice at Your Doorstep”, Justice Surya Kant said that constructing judicial complexes closer to the public has proved especially helpful for poor and disadvantaged sections in accessing justice. He added that while continuous development of judicial infrastructure is important, it is equally essential that citizens receive quality justice in a fair and timely manner.
