During this special sitting, a total of 17 cases were listed before the Bench. Out of these, eight cases were successfully disposed of, while nine matters were adjourned and will be taken up for hearing at a later date.
This special sitting was held following an announcement made by the Chief Justice on the previous Friday. At that time, Justice Surya Kant had informed lawyers that his Bench would assemble on Monday to hear urgent matters, even though the Court was scheduled to close for winter vacations on the same day.
The decision came after several advocates made oral requests seeking immediate listing of urgent cases that required prompt judicial attention.
The holiday sitting had a meaningful impact in reducing case pendency and highlighted the proactive and hands-on approach of the Chief Justice.
It also reinforced the Supreme Court’s commitment to ensuring access to justice, especially in urgent matters, even during court recess periods.
The move has been widely seen as a positive step towards addressing delays in the judicial system and reflects the judiciary’s responsibility to remain accessible to citizens whenever urgent legal intervention is required.
