CJI B R Gavai and Supreme Court judges have donated Rs 25,000 each to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. This move reflects their “unwavering commitment to humanitarian values” and support for flood-affected communities across India.

Chief Justice of India B R Gavai and other judges of the Supreme Court have decided to voluntarily donate Rs 25,000 each to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund, as stated on Tuesday.

This action demonstrates their “deep concern for the prevailing flood situation across various regions of the country” and highlights the judiciary’s “unwavering commitment to humanitarian values and national service.”

The statement also conveyed the CJI and judges’ heartfelt sympathy for the affected families, along with their sincere hopes for prompt relief, recovery, and the restoration of normalcy.

The Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund (PMFRF) is a national fund created to provide immediate relief and assistance to people affected by natural disasters, particularly floods. Contributions to the fund are voluntary and can come from individuals, organizations, and corporate entities.

The fund is used to provide financial aid for rescue operations, rehabilitation, and rebuilding of affected areas.

This contribution follows a similar initiative in August 2018, when former CJI Dipak Misra and the Supreme Court judges donated Rs.25,000 each to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund to aid victims of devastating floods in the state.
