CJI Gavai Fulfils Justice Bobde’s Promise Today: To Inaugurate TR Gilda Memorial e-Library And Attend His Death Anniversary in Amravati

NAGPUR: Chief Justice of India B. R. Gavai is to inaugurate the late Advocate T. R. Gilda Memorial e‑Library at the District & Sessions Court premises in Amravati on Saturday.

It began as a commitment in 2018 by then-Supreme Court Judge Sharad Bobde, which is to be done, nearly seven years later. The e‑library, fully funded by the Gilda family, stands as a fitting homage to TR Gilda’s legacy as a distinguished legal practitioner who served the Amravati bar for over four decades

The Gilda Memorial e-Library spans 380 square feet, thoughtfully designed to blend traditional resources with cutting-edge technology. It houses not just books, but also a robust digital infrastructure, including long-term subscriptions to premier legal research databases such as SCC (3 years), AIR (5 years), and Maharashtra Law Journals (10 years), ensuring continuous access to landmark judgments and evolving jurisprudence.

The facility also features a video-conferencing room equipped with broadband connectivity, enabling advocates to appear virtually before the Nagpur Bench, a critical resource in today’s hybrid legal environment. In addition, a fully air-conditioned lawyers’ lounge, stocked with newspapers and magazines, provides a comfortable and resourceful space, especially beneficial for young lawyers and those visiting from out of town.

Chief Justice Gavai arrived in Amravati earlier in the week, where he was received by Badnera MLA Ravi Rana. Before Saturday’s inauguration, he will attend a memorial service for his father, R. S. Gavai, a former governor and veteran Ambedkarite leader, in his native Daryapur today.
