He fondly recalled the contribution of towering figures like Padmashri Dadasaheb Gaikwad, Dadasaheb Gavai, Dadasaheb Kumbhare, and Sadanand Fulzele, who laid the foundation of Dr Ambedkar College with unwavering dedication. From humble beginnings with five classrooms and 300 students, the college has now blossomed into a prestigious institution with over 6,000 students and a legacy of excellence.
Recollecting a memorable moment from 1981, Justice Gavai highlighted Nagpur’s spiritual and cultural connection with Dr Ambedkar, the city that welcomed Babasaheb’s ashes with immense reverence during the Silver Jubilee of the Dhamma conversion. Adding importance to the occasion, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised Dr Ambedkar College for realising Babasaheb’s vision by opening the doors of education to the underprivileged and contributing to social transformation.
“Dr Ambedkar College has not just educated minds — it has transformed lives,”
he said.
In a gesture that honoured both leadership and achievement, Chief Justice Gavai was felicitated by the Chief Minister and Bhante Arya Nagarjun Surai Sasai. Furthermore, five outstanding students of Dr Ambedkar College were recognised for their exceptional contributions in various fields.
