CJI Gavai, 6 Supreme Court judges, and 5 High Court Chief Justices will join a major legal conference in Srinagar on July 26–27. This marks Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai’s 1st visit to Jammu & Kashmir after taking charge.

J&K: Srinagar is ready to host a very important legal event on July 26 and 27. A big two-day legal conference will be held at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC).
This event is called the North Zone Regional Conference.
It is being organised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) along with the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
A total of 25 top judges from across India will be attending.
This includes Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice B.R. Gavai, six judges from the Supreme Court, and five Chief Justices of different High Courts.
This will be a special occasion because it is the first visit of CJI Justice B.R. Gavai to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir after becoming the Chief Justice of India.
The Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal is also expected to come to this high-level judicial event.
The six Supreme Court judges attending the conference are:
- Justice Surya Kant, who is also the Executive Chairman of NALSA
- Justice Vikram Nath, Chairperson of Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC)
- Justice P.S. Narasimha
- Justice Rajesh Bindal
- Justice Pankaj Mithal
- Justice N. Kotiswar Singh
From the High Courts, the following five Chief Justices will attend:
- Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court
- Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court
- Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court
- Justice Arun Bhansali, Chief Justice of Uttar Pradesh High Court
- Justice Guhanathan Narendar, Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court
Many other senior judges and legal officers are also going to be part of this important conference.
They include Executive Chairpersons of State Legal Services Authorities (SLSAs) from:
- Delhi
- Chandigarh
- Punjab
- Himachal Pradesh
- Uttarakhand
Also attending are Chairpersons of High Court Legal Services Committees (HCLSCs) from:
- Punjab & Haryana
- Himachal Pradesh
- Uttar Pradesh (Allahabad and Lucknow Benches)
- Uttarakhand
The Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, Justice Arun Palli, along with other judges of the High Court, will also be present.
Officials have confirmed that security and other arrangements have been fully prepared for this major event.
One of the key highlights of the conference will be the inaugural session at SKICC, followed by a large legal awareness camp for tribal communities at the Juvenile Home, Harwan, Srinagar. There will be stalls from 12 different government departments to help spread awareness.

-for making sure everything runs smoothly. He will work in coordination with various departments.
“Overall coordination for the event will be managed by Registrar General High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, M.K. Sharma”
-who also works as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
To manage the event smoothly, the organisers have created many sub-committees.
These teams will handle different tasks like working with the government, finance, welcoming judges, transport, staying arrangements, the venue, food, cultural events, IT support, media coverage, and more.
