NEW DELHI: Today, (17th Sept): Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, inaugurated a new Delhi Government Health Centre situated within the Supreme Court premises. The ceremony marked a significant addition to the Supreme Court’s infrastructure, reflecting a commitment to enhancing health and well-being for all associated with the judiciary.
The inauguration was attended by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice JB Pardiwala, Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), SCBA President Kapil Sibal, Delhi government official, and Justice B R. Gavai, a notable gathering of Supreme Court judges, who were joined by members of the Bar. The event underscored the collaborative effort between the judiciary and government institutions to provide better facilities and support for those working within the legal system.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud stated,
“The facility has been established in partnership with the Delhi government to offer essential medical care to lawyers and litigants within the court premises. If further treatment is required, patients will be transported via ambulance to other hospitals. The center also provides services such as blood tests, ENT care, and observation beds to stabilize patients or handle routine issues.”
Kapil Sibal, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, remarked,
“This has been a long-standing request as lawyers work in court from morning until evening under significant stress. Now, there’s a primary health center equipped with two doctors and basic medical equipment. We must commend the Chief Justice of India for modernizing this center, which is a significant benefit to the legal community.”

On 22nd February, The Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud, unveiled the AYUSH Holistic Wellness Centre within the Supreme Court premises. This pioneering initiative marks a milestone in the judiciary’s approach to health, emphasizing the importance of Ayurveda and holistic living for the well-being of its members and staff.
Located on the ground floor of the E-block in the Court’s additional building complex, the Wellness Centre stands as a testament to the Supreme Court’s commitment to fostering a healthy lifestyle among its judges, their families, and over 2000 staff members. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of the Cabinet and the State Minister of AYUSH, alongside other esteemed judges of the Supreme Court, highlighting the collective support for this wellness initiative.
