Today, On 1st September, During the closing session of the National Conference of the District Judiciary, President Murmu highlighted the urgency of ending the “culture of adjournments” prevalent in courts. She pointed out that the growing backlog of cases is a serious challenge that demands collective action. The President called for concerted efforts to streamline judicial processes, emphasizing that timely justice is essential for the credibility and effectiveness of the legal system.
New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu, on Sunday, emphasized the need to tackle the “culture of adjournments” in courts to ensure the delivery of swift justice.
Speaking at the closing event of the two-day National Conference of the District Judiciary, she highlighted the significant challenge posed by the backlog of court cases.

She urged,
“All possible efforts need to be made to change the culture of adjournments in courts,”
President Murmu also underlined the responsibility of all judges to uphold justice and acknowledged the stress experienced by ordinary citizens in courtrooms, referring to it as “Black Court Syndrome.” She suggested that this phenomenon should be studied further.

Additionally, she expressed satisfaction with the growing number of women in judicial positions. The event, held at the Bharat Mandapam, attended by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal.

During the program, President Murmu also unveiled a flag and insignia of the Supreme Court.
President Murmu’s address highlighted the need for a collective effort to reform the judicial process, reduce delays, and ensure that the courts serve the people more effectively. Her call to action serves as a reminder that justice delayed is justice denied, and it is imperative for the judicial system to evolve in a way that upholds the rights of every citizen to timely and fair justice.
