The Union Government transferred Justice Soumen Sen from the Meghalaya High Court to the Kerala High Court as Chief Justice. He will succeed Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, who will retire on January 9.
New Delhi: The Union Government has announced the transfer of Hon’ble Justice Soumen Sen, currently serving as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, to the Kerala High Court.
Justice Sen will take over as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court after the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, who is scheduled to step down on January 9.
This transfer follows a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium during its meeting on December 18, 2025.

Hon’ble Justice Soumen Sen was born on July 27, 1965, in Kolkata. He completed his schooling at St. Lawrence High School in Kolkata and earned his LL.B. degree from the University of Calcutta in 1990, achieving the highest marks and securing first place in his class.
He actively participated in debates and moot court competitions, earning first place for individual performance at the XII All India Moot Court Competition 1989, held in Pondicherry, which was linked to the selection for the International Division of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition that same year.
Justice Sen enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of West Bengal in January 1991. For the next 20 years, he practiced as an Advocate at the Calcutta High Court, both on the Original and Appellate sides, and represented various Courts and Tribunals as a Senior Central Government Advocate.
His practice included civil, constitutional, banking, and arbitration matters, serving clients such as the RBI, SEBI, SIDBI, and other statutory bodies.
He was elevated to the position of Judge at the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2011. He was appointed as The Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya on September 26, 2025, and took his oath on October 8, 2025.
