Centre Appoints Former Madras High Court Justice PN Prakash as Special Public Prosecutor for NIA cases before Supreme Court

The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed this appointment via a notification on its official website.

NEW DELHI: Today (18th July): The Central Government appointed Senior Advocate and former Madras High Court judge, Justice PN Prakash, as the Special Public Prosecutor for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases before the Supreme Court of India on July 18.

The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed this appointment via a notification on its official website.

Justice Prakash will represent the NIA in the following cases pending before the Supreme Court of India:

  1. RC-42/2022/NIA/ DLI
  2. RC-33/2022/NIA/ DLI
  3. RC-02/2022/NIA/ DLI
  4. RC-01/2019/NIA/ DLI
  5. RC-06/2019/NIA/ DLI

Following his retirement as a judge, Justice Prakash was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in October 2023.

Prior to his elevation to the bench in 2013, he practiced criminal law at the Madras High Court for nearly three decades. As a judge of the Madras High Court, he authored numerous significant judgments and played a key role in implementing the Tamil Nadu Criminal Rules of Practice, 2019.
