MS Dhoni has officially secured the trademark for “CAPTAIN COOL” as per the Trade Marks Registry. The iconic title, long linked with his calm leadership, is now legally protected for his exclusive use in entertainment and sports.

A new official document from the Trade Marks Registry confirmed that the term “CAPTAIN COOL” has been “Accepted & Advertised” as a trademark for Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

This status was updated on 29/06/2025, as per the record available under the Trade Marks Registry maintained by Intellectual Property India.

The application was filed under TM Application No. 5966261 for Class 41, which generally includes education and entertainment services, especially those related to sports, training, and cultural activities.

The date of application is listed as 05/06/2023, and the appropriate registry office for this application is Kolkata.

The state mentioned is Jharkhand, and the filing was done through e-Filing mode.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has taken a notable step to enhance his off-field brand by applying for a trademark for “Captain Cool,” a nickname that has long been associated with his calm leadership style.

The application was submitted online on June 5 through the Trade Marks Registry portal, highlighting Dhoni’s intention to officially claim ownership of a title that fans and the cricketing community have used for years to describe him.

Over time, “Captain Cool” has evolved into more than just a nickname; it embodies Dhoni’s ability to remain composed under pressure.

From leading India to victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 to securing the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013, the moniker signifies his remarkable achievements.

The decision to trademark it indicates a strategic move to leverage the nickname across various categories, including apparel, digital content, and merchandise.

Such actions are common among global icons. For instance, Michael Jordan capitalized on the “Jumpman” logo, and Cristiano Ronaldo transformed “CR7” into a business empire. Indian celebrities have also followed suit, with Salman Khan’s “Being Human” and Sourav Ganguly’s “Dada.”

Even after retirement, Dhoni remains a powerful commercial figure. With a brand valuation estimated at Rs 799 crore in 2024 and over 35 major endorsements, this latest initiative clearly shows that he is strategically planning for the future coolly, of course.
