Bihar Elections | No Candidate Requested Verification: EC Confirms Zero EVM Tampering Complaints in Bihar

PATNA: The Election Commission of India (EC) has firmly rejected allegations of vote theft and electronic voting machine (EVM) manipulation in the recently concluded 2025 Bihar assembly elections, stating that not a single losing candidate filed a complaint or requested post-counting EVM verification.

In a statement released from Patna, the EC clarified that no application seeking verification of burnt memory or microcontroller of EVMs was submitted for any of the 243 assembly constituencies. Under the Supreme Court-mandated procedure issued on June 17, candidates who finished second or third were eligible to request such verification within seven days of the result declaration.

“No application for checking and verification of burnt memory/microcontroller has been received from any losing candidate in any constituency,”

the EC said.

Opposition leaders, particularly RJD’s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, had accused the EC of bias towards the BJP and alleged widespread manipulation of electoral rolls and polling. However, the commission said:

  • No appeal was filed regarding the wrongful inclusion or exclusion of voters
  • None of the 2,616 candidates or recognized political parties demanded a repoll
  • No discrepancies were found during the mandatory VVPAT slip verification for 1,215 polling stations (five per constituency)

The commission emphasized that it has strictly adhered to transparency measures, dismissing accusations of irregularities as unsubstantiated.

EC assistant director Apurva Kumar Singh highlighted several transparency initiatives during the elections:

  • Index cards for the Bihar elections were released within 72 hours of the result declaration
  • Full statistical reports are made publicly accessible within five days
  • Free access to data for researchers, media, and voters

These steps, the EC said, are intended to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.

Tejashwi Yadav earlier questioned the delay in releasing gender-wise turnout data during the first polling phase, calling it a deviation from past protocol. The EC responded that such claims were misleading, reiterating its commitment to fair and open elections.
