Jammu & Kashmir Bar Associations Strongly Condemn Pahalgam Terror Attack, Call for Bandh and Justice

Jammu and Kashmir: Multiple bar associations from Jammu and Kashmir have come forward to denounce the deadly terrorist attack that took place on April 22 in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley, which resulted in the tragic loss of 28 innocent lives and left several people injured. The incident has caused immense grief and anger across the region.

The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association at Jammu, led by its President Advocate K Nirmal Kotwal, released a heartfelt statement on Tuesday.

The association called the incident a “cowardly and inhumane act of violence” that was deliberately aimed at innocent civilians.

Expressing deep sorrow and solidarity, the association extended support to the families of the victims. It further called for a complete Jammu Bandh and the suspension of all judicial work on April 23, urging all civil society organisations to join the protest against terrorism and in honour of those who lost their lives.

Similarly, the Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association at Srinagar, headed by President Advocate Waseem Gul, also issued a strong condemnation of the attack.

The association described the brutal act as a “barbaric assault with no place in a civilized society.”

The Srinagar Bar urged all its members, including advocates, to stay away from court work on April 23 in both the High Court at Srinagar and subordinate courts across Kashmir division. This step was taken as a mark of respect to the victims and to raise a collective voice against the ongoing threat to regional peace.

The Kashmir Jurists Bar Association also spoke out strongly against the incident.

In a joint statement signed by President Altaf Ganderbali and Chief Coordinator Tajamul Chaudhry, the association condemned the attack as an inhuman attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.”

They called for a complete and peaceful Kashmir Bandh on April 23, appealing to civil society and conscientious citizens to stand together against terrorism and show solidarity with the bereaved families.

All three bar associations expressed that the April 22 attack was not only an act of terror but also a direct attack on the values of peace, justice and humanity. In a unified voice, the legal bodies stressed the need for unity and strength among people in these troubling times.

They have also urged the government and security agencies to “swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure robust preventive measures to protect civilians from such future threats.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, stating that those responsible will be brought to justice and will not be spared.”

The Prime Minister, who cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia, returned to India early this morning and immediately chaired an important security meeting at the Delhi airport. The meeting included National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Several world leaders also came forward to condemn the tragic incident and show their support for India. Among them were US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. They expressed solidarity with India and extended condolences to the victims and their families.
