Suspended advocate Rakesh Kishore, who was earlier involved in a shocking shoe-throwing incident at the Supreme Court, has now claimed that a group of around 100–150 people attacked him with slippers at Karkardooma Court in Delhi.

A video of the incident is also circulating on social media. The clip shows people surrounding him, raising their hands towards him, while a few others can be seen trying to protect him as he argues with the crowd.

According to Kishore, the attack happened because of the earlier incident involving former Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai.

He said that when he asked the crowd why they were beating him, they replied that it was revenge for what he had done to the then Chief Justice.

He told ANI,

“When those people were hitting me, I asked them why they were doing so. They answered that it was because of the incident with the then CJI Gavai…He [BR Gavai] had also insulted the Sanatan Dharma.”

The police have not yet released any official statement regarding the alleged assault.

The controversy began in early October when the 71-year-old lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at the then Chief Justice inside a Supreme Court courtroom. Security personnel immediately stopped him and escorted him out.

While he was being taken away, he shouted,

“Sanatan ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan”.

Following this, the Bar Council of India suspended his license with immediate effect, saying that such behaviour cannot be tolerated from any member of the legal profession.

The incident also drew strong remarks from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally spoke to Justice BR Gavai to condemn the attack. Modi said that such behaviour had angered the entire nation.

He stated,

“There is no place for such reprehensible acts in our society,”

and praised the former CJI for remaining composed. Posting on X, he wrote,

“Spoke to Chief Justice of India, Justice B R Gavai Ji. The attack on him earlier today in the Supreme Court premises has angered every Indian. There is no place for such reprehensible acts in our society. It is utterly condemnable.”

He added,

“I appreciated the calm displayed by Justice Gavai in the face of such a situation. It highlights his commitment to values of justice and strengthening the spirit of our Constitution.”

Later, BR Gavai himself shared his thoughts about the shoe-throwing incident. He said that his decision not to take action against Kishore came from his personal upbringing and values. In an interview with ANI, he explained,

“Maybe it is a result of my upbringing… I didn’t even know it was related to some alleged utterances or observations made by me in court. But I felt I must proceed with the matter, and that was a decision taken in the spur of the moment.”

The fresh allegations of assault on Kishore at the Delhi court complex have again raised questions about courtroom security, lawyer conduct, and rising tension around controversial statements involving religion and the judiciary.

Authorities are yet to confirm the details of the incident, but the matter has already triggered another debate about safety inside court premises and the increasing aggression seen around sensitive legal issues.
