New Delhi: Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud has received three petitions, including one from an Army College doctor, concerning the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The petitioners have requested that the Chief Justice take suo motu cognizance of this horrific case and ensure “swift, unyielding, and exemplary” justice.
The petitioners include Supreme Court Advocates Rohit Pandey, a former Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), and Ujjawal Gaur, a SCBA member, along with Dr. Monica Singh, a BDS from the Army College of Dental Sciences, Secunderabad.
Supreme Court Advocates Rohit Pandey and Ujjawal Gaur stated,
“This case represents more than just a horrific crime; it is an attack on the essence of our nation and a severe violation of the justice and humanity enshrined in our Constitution.” They urged CJI Chandrachud to deliver justice that meets the gravity of the situation.
The petitioners emphasized that this case demands a strong message that such heinous acts will not be tolerated and that the dignity of life and women must be safeguarded by the full force of the law.
Dr. Monica Singh called on the CJI to enhance security measures at medical institutions and deploy Central Forces to protect the affected college and its staff, stressing that the attack undermines the safety of those dedicated to public service.
The Kolkata incident has profoundly impacted the medical community, leading to nationwide protests. In response, the Indian Medical Association has announced a 24-hour withdrawal of non-emergency services starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday.
