AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi urged for the enactment of a law in Telangana to prevent communal riots. He highlighted the need for the Prevention of Communal Riots Bill, originally introduced by the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government, to be implemented in the state. Owaisi emphasized the importance of this legislation to maintain peace and communal harmony in Telangana.

Hyderabad : Hyderabad MP and leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Asaduddin Owaisi, called on the Telangana government to introduce legislation aimed at preventing communal violence in the state.

Speaking at a meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Darussalam on Tuesday, Owaisi strongly denounced the recent attack on Muslims in Medak by a right-wing mob, which occurred just two days before Bakrid.

Commenting on the recent violent incidents, Owaisi stated,

“Had the police intervened promptly in Medak, the situation would not have escalated ?”

On June 15, tensions rose when a mob surrounded the Miraj-ul-Uloom Madrasa following the management’s purchase of cattle for Bakrid sacrifices. This led to clashes between two communities at three different locations, resulting in multiple injuries and the imposition of Section 144 in the area.

Owaisi emphasized the need for the Prevention of Communal Riots Bill, initially introduced by the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government, to be enacted in Telangana, with AIMIM’s backing in the Assembly.

He stated,

“They should assign police officers free of religious bias and ensure actions are taken against anyone attempting to disrupt peace, regardless of their religion or community. The Congress must take this seriously,”

He added,

“For Telangana to remain strong, we must prevent individuals who aim to disturb the region’s peace.”

During his speech, Owaisi stressed the importance of creating laws that not only address the immediate aftermath of such riots but also work towards preventing them. He argued that existing laws are insufficient to tackle the complexities and root causes of communal violence. Owaisi proposed that the new legislation should include stringent measures to hold individuals and organizations accountable for inciting communal hatred and violence.

Owaisi’s call for anti-communal riot legislation in Telangana aims to foster a more inclusive and peaceful society, ensuring that all communities can coexist without fear of violence and discrimination.

Highlighting the growing concerns over communal tensions and violence, Owaisi emphasized the urgent need for a legal framework that specifically targets and prevents communal riots.
