Allahabad High Court Bar Polls| Rakesh Pandey Elected HCBA President for 3rd Time, Akhilesh Sharma Becomes Secretary

PRAYAGRAJ: Rakesh Pandey and Akhilesh Kumar Sharma have been elected as President and Secretary, respectively, of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA). The results, announced on Tuesday, mark an important moment in the legal community of Uttar Pradesh’s judicial capital.

Rakesh Pandey has achieved the presidential post for the third time, reaffirming his popularity and influence within the bar. He won by a narrow margin of 193 votes, defeating his closest rival, C.P. Upadhyay. Pandey secured 2,121 votes, while Upadhyay garnered 1,928 votes in a keenly contested race.

On the other hand, the contest for the post of Secretary saw Akhilesh Kumar Sharma secure a decisive victory, defeating Ray Sahab Yadav by an impressive margin of 937 votes. Sharma bagged 2,885 votes, while Yadav received 1,948 votes. Santosh Kumar Mishra came in third with 1,149 votes.

The election witnessed an impressive voter turnout of 85%, with 8,773 lawyers exercising their franchise out of the total eligible voters. Elections were held for 28 posts of the HCBA on July 23, and the vote counting process spanned six days — a reflection of the scale and complexity of the poll.

The counting and declaration of results for the President and Secretary posts were carried out under the supervision of Chief Returning Officer Radha Kant Ojha, along with fellow officers Vashistha Tiwaari, Mahendra Bahadur Singh, and Anil Bhushan. The counting for the remaining 26 posts of office-bearers is still underway, and the results are expected within the next two days.
