Singhvi successfully convinced the Supreme Court bench that Kejriwal’s case granted interim relief, emphasizing the inconsistencies and lack of evidence in the charges brought by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

NEW DELHI: On Friday (12th July): Following Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s second interim bail in a money laundering case granted by the Supreme Court, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has become the preferred legal representative for opposition leaders facing similar cases.
Singhvi successfully convinced the Supreme Court bench that Kejriwal’s case granted interim relief, emphasizing the inconsistencies and lack of evidence in the charges brought by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Singhvi questioned the necessity and timing of Kejriwal’s arrest, alleging that the ED withheld favorable material. His arguments led the two-judge apex court bench to refer Kejriwal’s petition to a larger bench to examine if the necessity of arrest should be a condition under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Singhvi’s legal prowess extends beyond Kejriwal. He has represented various high-profile politicians in the Supreme Court. For instance, he secured interim medical bail for AAP leader Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case related to the now-scrapped excise policy.

He also represented AAP leader Sanjay Singh in the same case, eventually securing bail from the Supreme Court after arguing that the ED failed to meet the “necessity” test and provide substantial evidence.
Singhvi also represents AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who sought bail from the Supreme Court in the Delhi liquor policy case. Additionally, Singhvi defended Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the Sunanda Pushkar death case and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram in the INX Media case, focusing on procedural lapses and lack of evidence.
Furthermore, Singhvi has defended the West Bengal Government and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee, against coal smuggling allegations. His growing reputation as a formidable legal advocate has made him a key figure for opposition parties in legal battles against the ED and other investigative agencies.
