AAP MP Sanjay Singh Tells Court: "Won't Make Statement Against Goa CM's Wife"

Panaji: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has assured a court in Goa that he will not make any statements against Sulakshana Sawant, wife of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, until the next hearing of the defamation case filed by her. The assurance was given on Friday during proceedings at the civil court in Bicholim.

Sulakshana Sawant, a local BJP leader, has filed a defamation case seeking Rs 100 crore in damages from Singh. This follows allegations made by Singh last year during a press conference in Delhi, where he accused her of involvement in an alleged cash-for-jobs scam in Goa.

At the previous hearing, the court had sought Singh’s response to the allegations. During the latest hearing, Advocate Pralhad Paranjape, representing Sulakshana Sawant alongside senior advocate S V Manohar, stated,

“We asked for a court injunction or interim order restraining Singh from making any further defamatory statements against her.”

The court was informed by Singh’s counsel that he would refrain from making any further statements about Sulakshana Sawant until the next hearing, which is scheduled for January 24.

In addition to seeking monetary damages, Sulakshana has demanded an apology from Singh, along with a public clarification that his statements were untrue.

The defamation case comes amid opposition allegations of a cash-for-jobs scam in Goa, where several job aspirants were reportedly duped with promises of government positions in exchange for money. Singh’s comments in this context have been at the center of the controversy.

The court will resume hearing the case on January 24, and it remains to be seen how both parties will proceed. For now, Singh’s assurance provides a temporary reprieve as legal proceedings continue in this high-stakes defamation case.
