In the Pul Bangash Sikh Killings case, a forensic expert testified that video evidence was unedited and in order. This strengthens the prosecution’s position against former Congress MP Jagdish Tytler.

New Delhi: In a significant development in the Pul Bangash Sikh Killings case linked to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Rouse Avenue Court recorded the testimony of a forensic expert on Thursday. The case involves former Congress MP Jagdish Tytler, who is facing trial in connection with the killings.
Special Judge Jitendra Singh recorded the evidence of S Ingarsal, Deputy Director (Photo and Scientific Aid Division) of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), who appeared as a prosecution witness. He was cross-examined by defence counsel Advocates Anil Kumar Sharma and Anuj Sharma.
During his deposition, the forensic expert stated that he examined a CD containing five video clips. He confirmed that “on examination, no editing was found in the videos contained in the CD.”

He further testified that although the five video clips were not in a single continuous sequence, they were found to be in proper order.
“The said five video clips were observed to be relatively similar and found to be a part of a continuous video footage in respect of the subjects (persons), location, background, set properties, relative position and pattern of on-screen date and time stamp, and also the lighting conditions,”
Ingarsal deposed.
Following this forensic examination, a report was submitted on September 27, 2022.
With the court’s permission, the CD containing the video evidence was played for the identification of audio and video footage by the witness. This step was taken to verify the forensic findings and confirm the authenticity of the visual evidence.
After a detailed deposition, the court deferred further cross-examination for the next date of hearing.
The Rouse Avenue Court is currently recording prosecution evidence in this high-profile case, which pertains to the killing of three Sikhs in the Pul Bangash area on November 1, 1984, a day after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The testimony of the CFSL forensic expert strengthens the case, as it confirms that the video evidence presented before the court has not been tampered with. The upcoming hearings will determine the next course of action in this decades-old case that remains one of the key trials linked to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
