Allahabad: Recently, The Allahabad High Court granted bail to a 70-year-old man named Ram Khelawan, who was accused of engaging in unnatural sexual acts with a cow. The bail plea was filed by the accused, and the case involved charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. After considering the submissions and circumstances of the case, Justice Jaspreet Singh granted conditional bail to the accused.

Justice Jaspreet Singh, has granted conditional bail to a 70-year-old man named Ram Khelawan. The accused had filed a bail plea in a case involving charges of unnatural sex, intentional insult, criminal intimidation, and violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The case was pending before a trial court in Ayodhya.

The Court, after reviewing the submissions, the case’s facts and circumstances, and the available evidence, along with considering the seriousness of the charges against the applicant, the potential punishment if found guilty, and the absence of concerns regarding flight, tampering with evidence, or witness intimidation, concludes that the applicant should be granted bail at this stage, without prejudice to the case’s merits.

According to the FIR, the complainant had entrusted the care of their cow to the applicant for several years. The complainant became suspicious of the accused’s behavior after receiving a video from unknown sources, allegedly showing the accused engaging in unnatural sexual acts with the cow. Based on these circumstances, the FIR was filed.

The counsel representing the petitioner argued that the accused was innocent and had been falsely implicated in the case. The defense emphasized that the accused, a 70-year-old senior citizen, had no previous criminal history. Furthermore, they pointed out that the applicant had been in jail since July 23, 2023, and therefore, was entitled to be released on bail.

The defense also contended that there was no evidence indicating that the applicant had been arrested based on the alleged video. They assured the Court that if granted bail, the accused would not misuse the liberty and would not pose a risk of fleeing or tampering with witnesses.

Although the State counsel opposed the bail plea, they could not provide substantial counterarguments to challenge the facts presented by the defense.
