Pune, Maharastra: A recent fatal road accident in Pune involving a 17-year-old driver behind the wheel of a sports car has shocked the community. The accident claimed the lives of a couple riding a two-wheeler, sparking a public outcry and demands for justice. The juvenile driver was granted bail by a Pune juvenile court, subject to specific conditions.

The accident occurred in Koregaon Park on an early Sunday morning, leaving a devastating aftermath. The minor, reportedly driving a Porsche, collided with a motorbike carrying Anis Dudhiya and Ashwini Costa. According to the police investigation, Costa tragically died on the spot, while Dudhiya succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Following the accident, a video surfaced online, capturing the teenager being assaulted by an angry crowd at the accident scene. An eyewitness claimed that there were three individuals in the car, but one of them fled the scene after the collision. Allegations of drunk driving were also made, suggesting that all three occupants of the car were under the influence of alcohol.

The Yerawada police station registered a case against the juvenile driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act, including charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence.
The police have charged the minor with rash and negligent driving and causing harm by endangering life or personal safety under IPC Sections 304A, 279, 337, 338, and 427, along with relevant sections of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Act.
Additionally, Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar announced that cases would be filed against the driver’s father and the establishment that served the young driver alcohol.
Additionally, the juvenile’s father and the bar face charges under Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, as stated by the Pune city police.
The juvenile court, after considering the circumstances of the case, granted bail to the minor driver. Although the details of the bail hearing were not publicly disclosed, police officials stated that the court did not deem the crime “serious” enough to deny bail. However, the court imposed several conditions on the teenager’s release, aiming to address the gravity of the offense and provide an opportunity for rehabilitation and behavioral correction.

The conditions include:
- Working alongside traffic police for 15 days: This requirement aims to sensitize the young driver to the consequences of reckless driving and develop a deeper understanding of traffic rules and safety.
- Undergoing psychiatric evaluation and treatment: Recognizing the potential psychological impact of the incident, the court has mandated psychiatric evaluation and subsequent treatment to address any underlying issues.
- Writing a 300-word essay on the “effect of road accidents and their solution”: This exercise encourages the driver to reflect on the devastating consequences of road accidents and explore possible solutions to mitigate such incidents.
- Seeking rehabilitation at a de-addiction center: Given the alleged involvement of alcohol, rehabilitation at a de-addiction center aims to address any substance abuse concerns and provide necessary support.
- Studying traffic rules and delivering a presentation to the Juvenile Justice Board: This requirement ensures that the young driver gains a comprehensive understanding of traffic regulations and actively engages in sharing this knowledge with others.
- Assisting accident victims in the future, if witnessed: By encouraging the driver to assist accident victims, the court emphasizes the importance of empathy and social responsibility.
