West Bengal: On Friday(22nd March), Sheikh Shahjahan, a prominent figure associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has been remanded to a six-day police custody.
“The CBI had prayed for six-day police custody of Sheikh Shahjahan, Sukumar Sardar, and Mehbul Molla in case no. 8 of Nazat Police Station. The learned court allowed it…,”
– stated Raja Bhaumik, the legal representative for the accused.
Bhaumik disclosed-
“…We’ve submitted a bail petition on medical grounds (for some of the accused), backed by medical documents. The Court considered our plea and issued the order. We’re still reviewing the specifics of the order,” s
Furthermore, Bhaumik disclosed issues related to Sheikh Shahjahan’s health, which could potentially influence the case’s proceedings.
“Sheikh Shahjahan has also some medical issues. He has a spine problem. We filed a petition in this regard. The medical document is in his house that has been sealed by the CBI,”

The narrative of this case extends beyond the courtroom, involving Sheikh Shahjahan’s sibling, Sheikh Alamgir, who also finds himself entangled in troubles.
Alamgir, apprehended by the CBI for his alleged role in orchestrating the January 5 attack on ED officials, was subsequently placed under a five-day custody, as confirmed by his legal counsel.
The Calcutta High Court intervened, issuing a contempt notice against the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Kolkata Police. By ordering the case and custody of the main accused to be transferred to the CBI, the court emphasized its commitment to ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation, especially in light of allegations against the state police’s questionable actions.

In Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district, residents, particularly women, have accused Shahjahan and his associates of serious wrongdoing. Allegations include land-grabbing and coercive sexual assault.
