[Sexual Abuse Case] Karnataka JDS MLA HD Revenna Granted Bail

Bengaluru: Today (20th May): A Bengaluru court granted bail to HD Revanna, a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Karnataka, in a sexual abuse case involving him and his son, Lok Sabha member Prajwal Revanna. The court’s decision came after HD Revanna filed a bail plea, which was accepted by Judge J Preeth of the Special MP/MLA Court in Bengaluru.

Background:

The sexual abuse allegations against Prajwal Revanna came to light when numerous videos depicting the assault of several women were circulated on social media platforms. Following this, an FIR was registered against Prajwal Revanna and HD Revanna under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation, and insult to the modesty of a woman.

The case was registered based on a complaint filed by one of the victims, and a special investigation team (SIT) led by senior IPS officer BK Singh was assigned to probe the matter. As the investigation progressed, HD Revanna was also implicated in the case. However, the details of their alleged involvement have not been disclosed.

During the bail hearing, Senior Advocate CV Nagesh appeared on behalf of HD Revanna, while Additional Special Government Prosecutors Ashok Naik and Jayna Kothari represented the prosecution.

Background

On 13th May, In a kidnapping case, a local court granted bail to HD Revanna, an MLA from Janata Dal. The case related to the Karnataka sex scandal, which involves leaked pornographic videos, and his son Prajwal Revanna is one of the accused.

HD Revanna held in the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for three days after being arrested on May 4. The court required him to post a bail bond of Rs. 5 lakh. It is worth mentioning that HD Revanna, the son of HD Deve Gowda, a former prime minister. Allegations suggest that he assisted in the abduction of a victim who sexually assaulted and the case involves his son Prajwal Revanna.

Satish Babu, a relative of HD Revanna, apprehended in the Mysuru district on Friday after being named as the second accused in the FIR.

Revanna accused of being involved in the kidnapping and illegal confinement of a woman. The details of the case reveal a complex narrative involving alleged personal and political motivations. The charges were serious, and the arrest prompted widespread media coverage and public discussion.

The court, after considering the arguments from both sides, decided to grant bail to HD Revanna. The judge set several conditions for the bail, including a substantial surety, restrictions on travel, and direct orders not to contact witnesses or the victim. The court’s decision based on a balance between the rights of the accused and the severity of the charges.
