SC Collegium Recommends Permanent Status for Five Karnataka HC Judges

Today, On April 4th, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended granting permanent status to five additional judges of the Karnataka High Court. Additionally, one additional judge was proposed for a fresh one-year term. As per the Memorandum of Procedure, Supreme Court judges knowledgeable about the High Court’s operations consulted to assess candidates’ suitability. After scrutinizing the names and material provided, the Supreme Court collegium aligned with the recommendations of the High Court collegium.

Today 4th April, The Supreme Court Collegium recommended on Wednesday that five additional judges of the Karnataka High Court be granted permanent status, with one additional judge being recommended for a new one-year term.

The resolution of the Collegium posted on the official Supreme Court website on Thursday following its meeting held the day before.

Justices Cheppudira Monnappa Poonacha, Anil Bheemsen Katti, Chandrashekhar Mrutyunjaya Joshi, Umesh Manjunathbhat Adiga, and Talkad Girigowda Shivashankare Gowda are proposed to become permanent judges of the High Court.

Justice Gurusiddaiah Basavaraja recommended for another one-year term as an additional judge, effective from August 16 this year.

The High Court Collegium previously made recommendations to this effect on January 20, which received approval from the Chief Minister and the Governor of Karnataka.

According to the Memorandum of Procedure, judges from the Supreme Court familiar with the operations of the High Court were consulted to evaluate the candidates’ suitability.

The names scrutinised and evaluated based on the material placed on record, and the top court collegium eventually agreed with the views of the High Court collegium.
