A three-member panel headed by Dhalai District and Sessions Judge Gautam Sarkar has initiated a probe into the allegation, a senior advocate said on Sunday.

The woman claimed that the incident of sexual abuse occurred on February 16 when she visited the chamber of first-class judicial magistrate in Kamalpur to have her statement recorded regarding her rape case.

In her complaint addressed to the additional district and sessions judge of Kamalpur, she stated,

“I visited the first-class judicial magistrate’s chamber on February 16 to provide my statement. As I was about to do so, the judge groped me. I immediately left his chamber and informed both the lawyers and my husband about the incident.”

Additionally, the woman’s husband filed a separate complaint with the Kamalpur Bar Association regarding the incident.

Acting upon the survivor’s complaint, District and Sessions Judge Gautam Sarkar, accompanied by Chief Judicial Magistrate Satyajit Das, visited the office of the additional district and sessions judge in Kamalpur to conduct an investigation.

Shibendra Dasgupta, secretary of the advocate body, conveyed,

In response to the accusation against the judge, Registrar General of the Tripura High Court, V Pandey, stated:

“We have not received any official complaint regarding the issue yet. Similar to other residents of the state, I learned about it through the media and social media platforms. Once we receive a complaint in the appropriate format, we will take necessary action.”
