Tensions Erupt in Prayagraj as Lawyer Beaten by Police During CM Yogi Adityanath’s Visit

Prayagraj: A shocking clash between police and lawyers broke out on Tuesday during Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit, leading to the beating of an advocate near Hindu Hostel. The conflict arose when a lawyer attempted to cross a police barricade set up for the CM’s security, resulting in a heated argument with Sub-Inspector Atul Kumar Singh, who allegedly assaulted the lawyer.

Following the incident, tensions escalated as lawyers gathered at the scene, erecting their own barricades and blocking the road in protest. The situation grew intense, prompting heavy police deployment to control the unrest. The lawyers demanded immediate action, leading to the suspension of Sub-Inspector Singh and an official investigation into the matter.

The incident unfolded while CM Yogi Adityanath was in Prayagraj along with the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck. As traffic was halted for VIP movement, several lawyers heading to court were caught in the disruption. This reportedly contributed to the confrontation, as an eye-witness claimed that the lawyer had questioned the necessity of the roadblock, which led to the altercation.

As the protest intensified, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) City Abhishek arrived at the scene to diffuse tensions. The suspension of Sub-Inspector Singh was announced to pacify the protesting lawyers and restore order.

DCP Abhishek stated that Singh’s actions had tarnished the police department’s image, warranting his immediate suspension pending a departmental inquiry. The officer has been attached to police lines and is barred from leaving headquarters without prior permission until further notice.

This incident has sparked a wider debate on police behavior and lawyer rights, with many closely watching the outcome of the investigation.
