The Thalassery Sessions Court approved Divya’s regular bail application in the case, with a detailed judgment still pending. ADM Naveen Babu was found dead at his residence the morning after a farewell ceremony held before his transfer to another district.

Kerala: A Kerala court granted bail on Friday(8th Nov) to former Kannur District Panchayat President PP Divya, who faces allegations of abetting the suicide of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu.

The Thalassery Sessions Court approved Divya’s regular bail application in the case, with a detailed judgment still pending. ADM Naveen Babu was found dead at his residence the morning after a farewell ceremony held before his transfer to another district.

P.P. Divya, the former Kannur district panchayat president and an accused in the case concerning the death of former ADM Naveen Babu, has voiced her hope for a chance to prove her innocence in court.

Upon her release on bail from the women’s prison at Pallikkunnu on Friday evening, Divya expressed sorrow over the ADM’s death.

“I have dedicated two decades to public service, and my interactions with officials have always been well-intentioned,” she told reporters outside the jail.

“I trust the legal system and will present my case in court. Like Naveen Babu’s family, I too want a fair investigation to be conducted,” she added.

Divya allegedly made public remarks at the ceremony suggesting that Babu was involved in bribery related to a no-objection certificate (NOC) for a petrol pump. Her comments have since been linked to his death.

In response, Divya initially sought anticipatory bail, claiming her comments were aimed at promoting administrative integrity and not intended to harm Babu. However, the Sessions Court denied her anticipatory bail on October 29.

Following her subsequent arrest, Divya was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days, leading her to file the present petition for regular bail, which the court has now accepted.

Advocate K Viswan represented Divya, while Advocates John S Ralph and PM Sajitha appeared for Naveen Babu’s family. The state was represented by Public Prosecutor K Ajith Kumar.
