The Jharkhand High Court issued a directive preventing any coercive actions against BJP leaders following their march to the secretariat. A petition filed by the BJP, seeking protection for its leaders involved in the march.

Ranchi: On 3rd April: The Jharkhand High Court issued an order to refrain from taking any coercive measures against BJP leaders in connection with a case registered against them for their march to the secretariat on April 11 last year.

The case was filed against prominent BJP figures, including the State Chief Babulal Marandi, Union Minister Arjun Munda, Godda MP Nishikant Dubey, Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth, and former chief minister Raghubar Das, for allegedly violating prohibitory orders. The court directed the government to submit an affidavit, and the next hearing is scheduled for May 8.
The Jharkhand High Court issued a stay order on any coercive action against BJP leaders who participated in a march to the secretariat on April 11, 2023.
The High Court took cognizance of the matter after hearing a petition related to the case. Following the hearing, the court instructed the government to file an affidavit providing the necessary details. The case will be further deliberated upon during the next hearing scheduled for May 8.
Last year, BJP workers clashed with the police as they marched towards the secretariat to carry out a pre-announced gherao (encirclement) program. To prevent the protestors from reaching the secretariat, where Section 144 of the CrPc (Code of Criminal Procedure) was enforced, the police resorted to tear gas shells, water cannons, and lathi-charging.

In response to the incident, an FIR was lodged against 41 BJP leaders and workers, which included Union minister Arjun Munda and former chief ministers Raghubar Das and Babulal Marandi, for violating the imposed prohibitory orders.
The recent order from the Jharkhand High Court provides temporary relief to the accused BJP leaders by preventing any coercive actions against them until further court proceedings.
