Amaravati: Today(on 22nd April), Vemula Satish Kumar (19), the main suspect in the assault on Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, is anticipated to appear before the Fourth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Vijayawada to provide a statement concerning the incident. This progression comes after the investigation officers served a notice under CrPC Section 164, which deals with the recording of confessions and statements.
The decision to summon Satish Kumar for a statement comes after the police released Vemula Durga Rao, who was previously considered a suspect in the case. In a press statement, Durga Rao revealed that he had been in police custody for four days, from April 16 to 20. He asserted that he was released as the police failed to find any substantial evidence linking him to the attack.

Satish Kumar’s legal counsel, Abdus Saleem, commented on the situation, stating-
“Since there is a lack of circumstantial evidence implicating Durga Rao, authorities are seeking to persuade Satish to become a witness. The court will then consider his testimony regarding the incident to reach a verdict.”
Earlier, Satish Kumar was arrested by the police and presented before the court on April 18. During the court proceedings, the investigation officers informed the court that Satish had been instigated by another individual to carry out the attack on the Chief Minister during his ‘Memanta Siddham’ bus yatra on April 13.
In the witness statements submitted to the court, it was mentioned that Durga Rao had incited Satish and had promised to provide a substantial sum of money if he caused harm to Jagan. However, the subsequent release of Durga Rao has raised questions regarding the true instigator behind Satish’s actions.

Satish’s legal counsel, expressing doubt about the investigation, asserted-
“The investigation appears to be poorly conducted overall. There is a notable absence of evidence backing the police’s assertions. It seems that the police’s aim is to wrap up the case by unfairly implicating an innocent individual as a scapegoat.”
These allegations further emphasize the defense’s concerns about the fairness of the investigation.
