Chief Justice DY Chandrachud Inaugurates Ayush Holistic Wellness Centre at the Supreme Court of India

DELHI: On 22nd February, The Chief Justice of India (CJI), DY Chandrachud, unveiled the AYUSH Holistic Wellness Centre within the Supreme Court premises. This pioneering initiative marks a milestone in the judiciary’s approach to health, emphasizing the importance of Ayurveda and holistic living for the well-being of its members and staff.

Located on the ground floor of the E-block in the Court’s additional building complex, the Wellness Centre stands as a testament to the Supreme Court’s commitment to fostering a healthy lifestyle among its judges, their families, and over 2000 staff members. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of the Cabinet and the State Minister of AYUSH, alongside other esteemed judges of the Supreme Court, highlighting the collective support for this wellness initiative.

CJI DY Chandrachud, a vocal advocate for Ayurveda and holistic health practices, shared his vision behind the establishment of the Wellness Centre.

“I have been working on this ever since I took over as CJI. I am a proponent of Ayurveda and holistic lifestyle. We have over 2000 staff members, and we must look at a holistic pattern of living, not just for the judges and their immediate families but for the staff members too… I am deeply grateful to all the doctors at AYUSH… We are unveiling this to the Supreme Court and through it to the entire nation,”

-he stated, underscoring the inclusive philosophy guiding this initiative.

The inauguration also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Supreme Court and the All-India Institute of Ayurveda. This partnership aims to operationalize and provide expert services at the Ayush Holistic Wellness Centre, ensuring that the Supreme Court community has access to the best of holistic health care.

“For me, this is a satisfying moment. I have been working on this ever since I took over as CJI. I am a proponent of Ayurveda and holistic lifestyle. We have over 2000 staff members, and we must look at a holistic pattern of living, not just for the judges and their immediate families but for the staff members too. I am deeply grateful to all the doctors of All India Institute Ayurveda,”

Justice Chandrachud remarked, reiterating his commitment to holistic wellness.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Secretary Ministry of Ayush Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Director Secretary, and other senior officers of the Ministry of Ayush; Prof. Tanuja Nesari, Director of All India Institute of Ayurveda, reflecting the collaborative effort behind this initiative.

The AYUSH Holistic Wellness Centre is designed as a state-of-the-art facility that offers comprehensive care focusing on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Supreme Court of India and the All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) under the Ministry of Ayush, aiming to promote the overall health of the judiciary’s members and staff. The Centre is part of a broader vision to integrate holistic and wellness practices into the daily lives of those serving the nation’s highest judicial institution, setting a precedent for other organizations to follow.

The inauguration of the AYUSH Holistic Wellness Centre at the Supreme Court premises is a forward-thinking step towards embracing a holistic approach to health and wellness.
