Today, On 3rd October, Zee Entertainment informed the High Court that it is working through issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding the certification of the film ‘Emergency.’ The company assured the court that discussions are underway to resolve the matter. The CBFC’s certification process is crucial for the film’s release.

Mumbai: Zee Entertainment Enterprises, co-producer of Kangana Ranaut’s film “Emergency,” informed the Bombay High Court on Thursday that it is currently resolving issues with the Censor Board regarding the certification of the movie.
Originally scheduled for release on September 6, the film has faced delays due to a dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over the non-issuance of a release certificate.
Last week, the CBFC informed the high court that the film could proceed with its release if specific cuts, as determined by the board’s revising committee, were implemented.
On Thursday, senior counsel Sharan Jagtiani informed a division bench of Justices B.P. Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla that the issues between the CBFC and the co-producer, Manikarnika Films, were being resolved.
Jagtiani stated,
“I believe it is working out between the CBFC and respondent 2 (Ranaut’s Manikarnika Films),”
The bench scheduled the next hearing for Friday.
Earlier this week, the bench informed that Kangana Ranaut’s production company, Manikarnika Films, agreed to the cuts suggested by the CBFC. Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the co-producer of “Emergency,” approached the high court seeking an order directing the CBFC to issue a certificate for the film.
The biographical drama, directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has been mired in controversy after Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, objected to its portrayal of the community and alleged historical inaccuracies.
In its plea, Zee Entertainment claimed that the CBFC had already prepared the certificate but had not yet issued it. Ranaut, earlier this week, accused the CBFC of delaying the certification to postpone the film’s release.
Zee Entertainment also claimed that the film’s certification was being withheld for political reasons, possibly linked to the upcoming elections in Haryana. The bench, in response, questioned why the ruling party (BJP) would take action against Kangana Ranaut, who is a BJP MP herself.
