DELHI: Today(on April 19), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced that Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has taken legal steps to ensure his health needs are met while in custody.
According to the party-
“Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister, has submitted a request in the Rouse Avenue Court for insulin provision in jail. The court is scheduled to review Kejriwal’s petition at 2 pm.”
Arvind Kejriwal, who has been under judicial custody, has been experiencing alarming fluctuations in his blood sugar levels, a situation exacerbated by his acute diabetes. The condition poses a substantial risk to his health, necessitating immediate and consistent medical attention. To mitigate these health risks, Kejriwal has filed a petition in the Rouse Avenue Court, seeking permission to consult his doctor daily via video conferencing for 15 minutes. Furthermore, he has requested that his wife be allowed to join and remain present during these consultations.
Following a series of alarming accusations by the AAP and its members regarding the welfare of the Delhi Chief Minister during his incarceration, this legal move was initiated. A day before the petition was lodged, Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena proactively directed the director-general of prisons to prepare a factual report on the AAP’s assertions.

These claims arose after Delhi cabinet minister Atishi expressed apprehensions about a purported scheme to endanger Kejriwal by depriving him of insulin and home-cooked meals while in custody for the excise policy case, with prison authorities speedy rebutting the allegations.
In response to the escalating concerns, the Raj Niwas issued a statement on X, outlining Lt Governor VK Saxena’s stance on the matter.
“Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri VK Saxena @LtGovDelhi, has expressed serious concern regarding statements made by Ministers and AAP leaders alleging the non-provision of insulin to Hon’ble CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in jail, and purported ‘conspiracies’ against him. Shri Saxena has directed the Director-General of Prisons to furnish a factual and comprehensive report on the matter within 24 hours. Despite Prisons being a transferred subject under the purview of the AAP Government, the LG has assured that any negligence concerning the CM’s health will not be tolerated.”
-the statement detailed.
At a press conference, Atishi voiced the distressing levels of Kejriwal’s blood sugar, which have consistently exceeded 300 mg/dL, indicating a severe neglect of his diabetic condition.
She strongly alleged-
“Despite repeated requests from Arvind Kejriwal, insulin is being withheld from him, resulting in an increase in his sugar levels. Medication is being denied due to suspicions of a plot to harm him.”
