Today, On 2n June, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, made headlines today as he surrendered at Tihar Jail, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings against him. The surrender comes in connection with a defamation case that has been a contentious issue in the political landscape of Delhi.
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at the Tihar Jail on Sunday after the 21-day interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections came to an end.
On May 10, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail in the Delhi excise policy scam case, instructing him to surrender on June 2.
Respecting the court and Constitution, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar Jail after the end of the interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court, according to Delhi Minister Atishi.
Kejriwal surrendered at the Tihar Jail after the expiration of the interim bail period that was granted to him by the Supreme Court.
Delhi government spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj commented,
“The leaders are being jailed because the BJP government has made amendments to laws that allow anyone to be imprisoned without proof. We are not afraid to go to jail and are hopeful that they will receive justice from the Supreme Court.”
The chief of the Aam Aadmi Party released from Tihar Jail in Delhi on May 10, following the Supreme Court’s decision to grant him temporary bail in the case related to the liquor policy. This move was to enable his participation in the Lok Sabha election campaigning.
The apex court ordered that Kejriwal must return to the custody of jail authorities by June 2, just after the conclusion of the last phase of the general elections on May 31. He initially taken into custody on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate.
Before his scheduled return to jail, Kejriwal visited a Hanuman temple, spoke to his party colleagues, and made a visit to Rajghat, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.
He expressed his gratitude towards the Supreme Court for the interim bail and commented on his use of the time out of jail.
He remarked,
“I ensured not a single moment of the 21 days was wasted, My campaign efforts were not limited to AAP alone; I also supported several other parties to contribute to the nation’s welfare.”
Kejriwal criticized the exit poll results that disclosed a day prior, labelling them as misleading.
He asserted,
“Take it from me in writing, all the exit polls are fake, One pollster attributed 33 seats to the BJP, despite there being only 25 seats in the state.”
According to several exit polls released on Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance projected to secure a comfortable victory in the Lok Sabha elections, potentially winning over 350 seats.

The polls predict that the BJP will emerge victorious in most, if not all, of the seven parliamentary seats in Delhi, where the Aam Aadmi Party currently holds power at the state level.
In Punjab, the only other state where the Aam Aadmi Party in power, most pollsters forecast that the Congress party will secure more seats than the Kejriwal-led AAP. It is worth noting that the AAP and Congress fought the Punjab elections separately, despite their alliance in Delhi.
