A Sultanpur court recorded a petitioner’s statement seeking legal action against Union Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly offending B.R. Ambedkar during Parliament remarks. Sultanpur: A local court in Sultanpur on Wednesday (Jan 15th) recorded the statement of a petitioner seeking the registration of a case against Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks on B.R. Ambedkar made in Parliament during the Winter Session. The complainant, Ramkhelavan from Bankepur Saraiya, alleged that Shah’s statement was “deeply offensive” and had “hurt the sentiments of millions.”
Special Magistrate Shubham Verma recorded the petitioner’s statement and scheduled the next hearing for January 23, 2025.
According to Ramkhelavan’s lawyer, Jaiprakash, the complainant first approached the Superintendent of Police (SP) on December 24, 2024, along with members of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), requesting an FIR against the home minister. When no action was taken, the petitioner resorted to seeking justice through the court.

Jaiprakash further stated,
“We have submitted newspaper cuttings, a video recording of Amit Shah’s statement in a pen drive, and the petitioner’s caste certificate to the court.”
He emphasized that it is now up to the court to decide under what legal provisions the FIR should be filed.
The complainant accused Amit Shah of making remarks that were “demeaning to Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy” and alleged that they caused emotional distress to a large section of society. The evidence submitted includes a written complaint, video footage of Shah’s speech, and related documents.
The case has gained attention due to the political sensitivities surrounding the issue. The court’s decision on January 23 will determine the course of further legal action.
