Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha born on 3rd May,1963 , to Justice Kodanda Ramayya who was the sitting judge at the Andhra Pradesh High Court from 1982-1998. Being a triple majors in Economics, Political Science, and Public Administration from Nizam College, Hyderabad , Justice Narasimha ,completed his law degree at the Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in 1988 and subsequently started practicing law in Andhra Pradesh.
Justice P.S. Narasimha transitioned to practicing law at the Supreme Court of India after starting his career in New Delhi. In 2008, he was designated as a Senior Advocate, a milestone recognizing his expertise in the legal field. In May 2014, Justice Narasimha was appointed as the Additional Solicitor General, a position he held until December 15, 2018, resigning for personal reasons. During this time, he also contributed to the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) as a member.
Justice Narasimha played pivotal roles in several landmark cases, and also represented India in prominent International forums, including:
Italian Marines Case at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS).
Investment treaty arbitration at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), The Hague.
Justice Narasimha was instrumental in drafting recommendations for amendments to the Arbitration Act, advocating institutional arbitration, and shaping mediation laws.
Thereafter , being an eminent personality in the legal field, . On 31 August 2021,following a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium, Justice Narasimha was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India. His appointment underscores his significant contributions to the legal field and judicial reform, Justice Narasimha was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court directly from the Bar.
As per the seniority rule, he will become the Chief Justice of India in October 2027. He will be the third person appointed directly from the bar to serve as Chief Justice, joining the ranks of S.M. Sikri and U.U. Lalit.
