Allahabad High Court directs that Umar Ansari’s bail plea must be heard by a regular bail court instead of an MP-MLA court, clarifying the proper jurisdiction for handling such applications in sensitive criminal matters.

The Allahabad High Court ruled that the bail application submitted by Umar Ansari, the younger son of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, should be presented before a regular court that handles bail applications rather than a court specializing in MP-MLA matters.

Justice Samir Jain issued this order in response to Umar Ansari’s bail request, which sought his release while a criminal case against him is ongoing.

The allegations state that Umar Ansari forged documents and his mother Afsa Ansari’s signature to reclaim a property that had been seized under the Gangster Act.

A criminal case was filed against him at the Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur district, claiming he created counterfeit documents and signatures to facilitate the release of the confiscated property from the court.

Recently, police apprehended Umar Ansari in Lucknow in connection with this case, leading to his incarceration.

After his bail plea was denied by the lower court, he approached the high court, seeking an order for his release on bail during the trial.

Umar was arrested in the first week of August 2025 because he submitted a petition before the court seeking release of property that had earlier been seized under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act.

The late Mukhtar Ansari’s properties were seized under the Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. He passed away due to a cardiac arrest on March 28, 2024. Mukhtar had previously been sentenced to ten years in prison for the 2005 murder of a BJP MLA and received a life sentence for securing an arms license through forged documents.

Umar’s elder brother, Abbas Ansari, was removed from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after being convicted for hate speech and currently faces several ongoing criminal cases.
